OGT Expedition 2.0: Rear Storage
Maybe I’m a little OCD or maybe I just like to know where things are going to be when I need to find them. Either way, one of my first projects with our new Off Grid Trailers Expedition 2.0 was to come up with an organized setup for storing things in the rear storage compartment. When you pull into camp after a long day of overlanding, the last thing you want to do is hunt for the items you need to setup and relax.
Each of the shelves can be infinitely adjusted in height or completely removed depending on your needs. This gives a lot of flex ability when packing for a trip.
For my setup, I wanted to have at least one large container to hold all of my kitchen essentials. This would allow me to just grab that one box and have everything I needed besides the food to prepare a meal. The Wolfpack by Front Runner fits the bill for this quite well. It is sturdy, has a securely attached lid (it is not water or dust proof) and fits this area just about perfectly.
I also wanted to have some medium sized containers to store various other things in. For these I purchased four 176oz Ikea 365+ containers and one 358oz Ikea 365+ container. These five containers take up about as much room as a single Wolf Pack.
For event smaller items, I ordered five of the Sheffield Field Boxes. These small ammo boxes are plastic and have a sealed lid, making them water tight and dust proof in normal conditions. They also come in 10 different colors. This allows you to color match them to something (I matched most of them to my trailer) or use different colors to color code them. I purchased a red one to hold my Care Science First Aid Kit. The red ammo box makes it super easy to grab that box when we need it. The first aid kit has a pretty good selection of basic first aid items and they come in labeled bags to keep the items fresh and make finding what you need easy.
In the other gray ones I keep my Orange Screw awning stakes, awning straps, Thermacell Halo Patio Shield Mosquito Repeller repellent and I still have one looking for something to hold. I made the Extreme Duty Labels on my laser. These are the beast of labels. Laser cut and engraved on 1/16″ UV stable acrylic, you can’t rip or tear them and the writing can never wear off or smudge.
I am sure this layout will change and evolve over the years as our needs change and we find what works best and what does not. As an initial setup, I’m pretty happy with it.
